Welcome to the Royal School of Needlework
Keeping the art of hand embroidery alive
The Royal School of Needlework is the international center for embroidery teaching based at Hampton Court Palace in southwest London. We teach in small, friendly classes with expert tutors. Moreover, we welcome all levels of experience and students from all over the world. We’ll help you develop your technical ability through our expert tuition and discover your creativity.
All Day Classes. RSN Certificate and RSN Diploma embroidery tutors have been trained at the RSN over a minimum of three years’ full-time study. Also, they bring each student a wealth of experience, technical knowledge, and enthusiasm. We also offer a two-year Foundation Degree in Hand Embroidery accredited by the University for the Creative Arts.

The RSN’s Embroidery Studio is also based at Hampton Court Palace. Our skilled Studio staff can undertake large-scale bespoke commissions and offer expertise in contemporary and traditional embroidery. Our most recent prestigious commission was to help Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton create HRH The Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress.
We have a collection of textiles and archive materials comprising some 60,000 objects – a selection of these can be seen on display on our Studio Tour days which take place throughout the year.
More details at the site.
We also have a shop at Hampton Court Palace and an online shop selling a range of needlework products, equipment, and gifts.
The RSN is a registered charity, no 312774, and by becoming an RSN Friend or Special Supporter. You can be part of keeping our vital work alive.
