Tudor Rose Table Runner Part 2 Curved Pieces with Nancy Adamek
English Paper Piecing • Educational, G, 15-Apr-2022
Nancy talks you through cutting out the fabric from strips. Jelly rolls would work well if you aren't working with Fat 1/4's. She focusses on using a slightly larger seam allowance than the traditional 1/4 inch as this is more helpful on curves.
She also talks you through the type of needle she prefers, why she selects 80 weight thread and in the Aurifil it is also cotton.
The Drunkard's Path block is made up of two curves. One is outwards and one is inwards. The two are treated differently, but both need to have the fabric gently 'stroked' over the curved edge. Once the units have been made they are sewn in to the star. This is NOT with the traditional whip stitch, but with a slip stitch. Again, Nancy shows you how this is done and what to do when you get to both the corners and the outside edge.
Nancy also shows you how to remove the papers from the central octagon. These can then be used again. She finds it makes the work easier to handle and sew. It doesn't fight back so much.
