TASTER: Flower Applique Block with Kate Percival
FREE Tasters (Embroidery) • Educational, G, 01-Feb-2016
Kate loves to include hand stitching with thick thread into her work and this block is no exception. The simple flower design has been worked in her favourite wool fabrics, but she talks you through some of the other options and what to look out for when considering using flannels and brushed cottons.
The applique shapes are fused into place and then embellished with the hand stitching using chain stitch and/or blanket stitch. The fusing is necessary to stop the pieces fraying.
If you would like to learn more about Kate and her love of quilting and hand stitching, you can enjoy our interview with her.
