You can use your favourite method to create these units. Just make sure they are the right size - 2" finished units are needed so the 2" Thangles that Valerie loves would work too. Also, Anne shows technique how use a large rectangle of each fabric, onto which you draw a grid. This in turn allows you to continuously sew the seams of the units and make all 48 at once!
She also talks you through the pressing. Which in turn helps with accurate piecing and you are back to using key measurement.
In addition, to make the band symetrical - you are only making one band though from the two rows of units.
