Quilt-as-you-go is a sort of sewing by numbers, through all the layers of your project. This means you can be finished in double-quick time.
Valerie mentions several commercially printed projects that you can purchase, such as Christmas stockings and tablemats. However, this technique is really easy for you to develop yourself and lends itself to you being able to finish things quickly.
Valerie talks you through some of the things to think about when using this method. The back of your project will be on display, so it wants to be just as nice as the front. You should consider how your stitching looks, the colour of your thread. You should also think if you want to initially only do this quilting through the wadding. You could then add the backing later. Finally you can also think about the binding, and the threads and stitch to use – particularly on the smaller projects such as table mats, or even mug mats.
